How we target individuals

Post by tanmoy666 »

A third attention-getter is that our eye is drawn to other people. And then not only to those people themselves, but also to what they are doing. An example is when someone points at something.

We also tend to follow the gaze of other people. This is also called gaze cueing . A well-known eye-tracking experiment examined how people looked at an advertisement for diapers. In a version where the baby is looking at the viewer (left in the image), you see that people focus on the baby's face. But as soon as people see the baby looking somewhere (right in the image), you see that people follow the baby's gaze.

Gaze Cueing
You can see very clearly that when the azerbaijan phone number library baby looks at us, the attention goes to the baby's face. As soon as the baby looks at something, we follow that gaze too.

We are also genetically set to focus on certain words that are personally relevant. An influential study by Colin Cherry in 1953, for example, proved that we are sensitive to our own name. Subjects had to have a conversation with another person and were given headphones through which different messages were given.

At first, subjects were able to focus on the conversation and barely picked up the messages through the headphones. But as soon as those messages contained their own name, 33% of the subjects suddenly picked it up. Incidentally, we also see the same effect with words that are taboo.
