Statistics on the use and perception of social networks in 2020
What networks do users use?
WhatsApp is the most used social network by users in 2020: 85% of respondents say they use it. It is followed by Facebook, with 81% (6% less than last year), YouTube (70%), Instagram (59%) and Twitter (51%).
Frequency and intensity of social media use
In terms of frequency of use, WhatsApp is once again at the top of the list, with 87% of its users using it several times a day. Instagram is next, with 56% of users using it several times a day and 25% using it daily. In third place is Facebook, with 52% of users using it several times a day and 26% using it daily. Overall, the frequency of use has increased since last year.
On the other hand, the intensity of use also increased compared to 2019, going from 55 to 80 minutes, probably as a result of confinement. Men and those under 40 years of age are those who spend more hours online.

WhatsApp: 1 hour and 43 minutes on average.
Twitch: 1 hour and 40 minutes.
YouTube: 1 hour and 39 minutes.
Spotify: 1 hour and 38 minutes.
House Party: 1 hour and 34 minutes. This video calling app with games became very popular during quarantine, which explains its appearance in the ranking.
If we combine the frequency and intensity data, WhatsApp is again the leader, with an average of more than 6 visits and 103 minutes per day. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are also used 4 times per day or more.
