The most prominent of these oddities was a rough stone tower that rose above the main building, and this part alone seemed out of place. It gave the impression that the mansion had been built around an ancient shaman’s lair. The effect should have been jarring, but Maura liked it, as if every aspect of the mansion offered a glimpse into a bygone era of empire. Its windows were shuttered and dark, and the only light she saw was a soft crimson glow at the top of the tower.
She followed a gravel path through an exquisite garden of elaborate topiaries, carefully directed channels, and strange-looking flowers with exotic scents and startlingly vivid colors. This, along with the spacious new zealand email list plaza outside, suggested fabulous wealth. The thought that she had been chosen for this task sent a shiver of pleasant warmth through her limbs.
Hundreds of colorful butterflies with curiously patterned wings fluttered back and forth among the flowers. Creatures so light and fragile, yet so beautiful and capable of the most miraculous transformation. Maura had never seen butterflies at night, and she laughed in delight as one landed in the palm of her hand. The conical shape of its body and the design of its outstretched wings was strikingly similar to the winged leaf heraldry she saw fluttering on every Noxian flag. The butterfly flapped its wings and flew away. Maura watched it circle and swoop with the others, amazed to see so many weird and wonderful creatures.
She let her fingers brush the colorful leaves as she passed, savoring the scents that clung to her fingers and rose in motes of dust that sparkled in the moonlight. She stopped before a particularly beautiful flower, one with fiery red petals so bright they took her breath away.
Had something more fun in mind
