TikTok users are creating trends week after week, and the latest great achievement has been to turn water into a viral phenomenon. With #WaterTok, the platform's new trend, young people are becoming fans of a very specific drink: flavoured water.

For decades, people have been advised to drink eight glasses of water a day, and this new trend on TikTok is based on users sharing recipes on the social network to present solutions to the need to drink H2O in the traditional way and meet their hydration goals.

The hashtag “WaterTok” has so far garnered over 300 million views and has become a hit with content creators on the social network. This is not the first time that TikTok has turned everyday elements into a viral topic.

Content creator Taylor Pullan, who has more than 380,000 followers on TikTok, has garnered millions of views on TikTok thanks to a series of videos where she shares recipes for making flavored water.

Users of the platform are joining a trend that could help them drink more water. But ABC Everyday points out that all these additional elements are unnecessary when it comes to drinking water.

Users of the app share authentic cocktail videos on the platform, complete afghanistan number screening with flavorings, syrups and more, to revolutionize the way we drink water. Critics of the trend, meanwhile, say it's just a way to generate likes .

Content creator Tonya Spanglo of @takingmylifebackat42 has been sharing her experience adopting a healthier lifestyle on the social network, where she has more than 744,000 followers, and has also shared a series of flavored water recipes since June 2022. As the TikToker points out to Fast Company , this trend helps her stay hydrated, a task that previously required greater effort.

Jessica Danaher, a registered dietitian and senior lecturer at RMIT University, tells ABC Everyday that while there is no harm in drinking flavoured water from time to time, there is no benefit to drinking it either. She adds that this trend can be useful for people who find it difficult to drink water on a daily basis.

“If (the flavors) don’t have sugars, and even if they do have artificial sweeteners, they should be a healthier option than being dehydrated,” she concludes. While it doesn’t provide any health benefits, WaterTok is the latest TikTok trend that has already gathered millions of views .
