German Pineiro's BlogYesterday, I decided to reread a book before going to sleep and I chose a pocket-sized book that is quick to read and very very particular. Particular for several reasons, the first being that it is a free book that was distributed from the physical offices and from the website (you asked for it and a messenger would bring it to you for free) of the company of which he is the executive president and one of the founders of MRW… Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are talking about Francisco Martín Frias and his book “ The First Coffee in the Morning – Reflections of an Entrepreneur ”. The second reason why this book is particular is the subject that it fundamentally deals with “Corporate Social Responsibility”…but the real kind. No one-off actions with only short-term social marketing objectives.
I am fully convinced that a company must have a social component or purpose within its business plan in which, in a certain way, it returns part of the benefit that it has brought to society. For me, as for Francisco Martín Frias and many other businessmen and workers, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is much more than generating employment, respecting the environment and complying with laws and regulations. As time goes by, Spanish companies are more aware of the importance of CSR and incorporate their approaches to provide society with improvements in social, economic and environmental matters within their strategic and operational plans.
All these CSR actions ultimately benefit the company that implemented them, boosting its competitive position and value, as well as its added value for all its stakeholders. “What a company gives, comes back to it.”

As a curiosity, you can download some reports from companies that really practice CSR and see what their actions are about, in order to later draw conclusions about what they do and what they get from it.

But… Returning to the book that is the subject of this post, I think we should return to the subject, making a brief but interesting biography of its author (Note the similarity with Gurus like Amancio Ortega)
German Pineiro's BlogFrancisco Martín Frías , born in Coca (Segovia), has a professional profile that fits perfectly with that of a self-made businessman. At the age of 11 he left school to help in his family's grocery business, and at 18 he began his journey as an entrepreneur by creating a company for excavation machinery. This was his activity until he was 37 years old when, with a group of friends in 1977, they bought Mensajeros Radio, now MRW, of which he has been the general manager since 1979.
The book reviews from a very humble point of view the entire career of Francisco Martín Frias, together with MRW, its beginnings, its development and its subsequent consolidation. All of this is linked to the aforementioned Corporate Social Responsibility that accompanied the company from its beginnings.
It is a good book to read in less than an hour before going to sleep and to draw important and interesting conclusions about Corporate Social Responsibility and how companies can give back to society a little of the much they contribute.
