1. Why should you care about the topic of your infographic?
I have a wealth of information available just a click away on the internet. But I can barely keep up with my Facebook and Twitter accounts where I share with people I respect and care about.

How do you make people care? Well, your topic needs to help your audience solve a problem or a pain point. You need to give your audience something of value.

You must remember that establishing a connection with your audience is not just about showing your product or service; it is about their needs. Try to put yourself in their shoes and inquire about their needs, their problems and their topics of interest.

If you can't easily find problems to solve, then you're focusing too narrowly. You need to broaden your perspective on the problem, and go a little beyond the boundaries of your product or service.

I'm also going to go over some other examples of some topics that people probably don't care about. My purpose is not to make fun of anyone (we've made the same mistakes, believe me), it's just that we feel that some negative examples can complement the positive ones we've already presented.

“Hard sell” product infographics, where the product is the focal point of the infographic, don’t usually work very well as an interesting story.

And I'm not talking about a product or service brochure. Companies must have marketing resources for their products and services.

What I mean is making an infographic that talks about your product and its features without giving much thought to the previous question (Why should I care?) and hoping that people will be captivated by it.

“New release” or “new achievement” infographics also fall into the “not very interesting” category (most of the time). The thoughts go something like: “We have the new 8.2 version with some new features… We’ll do a press release, an infographic, and hire a PR firm to promote it!”
