The tool itself does not include advertising, at least for now, but many marketing and advertising companies are seeing it as another means of sales and are including it in the design of their online marketing strategies, but special attention must be paid to strict compliance with the law, and specifically I am referring to the Law on Information Society Services (LSSI), and thanks to my colleague Jesús Pérez Serna , I am going to cite 2 articles referring to the risks involved in sending advertising via WhatsApp.

Article 21.1 LSSI

The sending of advertising or promotional communications by email or other equivalent means of electronic communication that have not been previously requested or expressly authorized by the recipients thereof is prohibited.

Article 21.1 LSSI paragraph 2

The provisions of the previous section shall not apply when there is a prior contractual relationship, provided that the provider has lawfully obtained the recipient's contact details and used them to send commercial communications regarding products or services of its own company that are similar to those that were initially contracted with the client.

2.- Examples of companies that use WhatsApp for advertising
Here I will present some examples of creative campaigns carried out by WhatsApp, so that we can see that money is not so important when carrying out a campaign of this type, but the originality and creativity of the strategy, which is where its value lies.

“Spreading the word not the disease” campaign

AIDS awareness campaign carried out via WhatsApp, where we can see a very original and creative strategy to raise awareness among many people.

“Hybridize with Toyota and WhatsApp” campaign

A campaign carried out by the Toyota brand to promote its hybrid car models, which consisted of asking users to change their WhatsApp status to “Hybridized”, thus entering the weekly draw for 5 iPhone 5s.

The campaign achieved more than 33,000 visits and 6,500 registered users in just one month.

I saw this example in a post by María Bretón, and I think it's great how such a simple and straightforward idea can improve a business's sales. In this case, the main clients of the sandwich business are the high school students who can place their order minutes before going out to recess and thus avoid queues and the inconvenience they cause.

In this campaign, Pringles asked its users to send a very creative text message using only WhatsApp emoticons to describe their experience consuming the brand's products.
